Elgin Council Says Yes to 7 Brew Over the Neighbors' (and Planning Commission's) Objections
The Elgin City Council approved a new 7 Brew drive-thru coffee spot on the east side, overriding a negative recommendation from its own planning and zoning commissioners. Somebody's morning just got easier. Somebody else's street, maybe not.
What Happened
According to the Daily Herald, the council approved the plan despite objections from some neighbors and a thumbs-down from the city's planning and zoning commissioners. When a council overrules its own advisory board, the vote tells you what it values: new business and tax base over neighborhood comfort.
What This Means for You
If you live near a commercial corridor, watch the agendas. Drive-thru traffic, hours and lighting are the things neighbors fight over, and they can shape how a nearby home shows. If you are buying, ask what is zoned or planned within a block or two. Five minutes at city hall beats five months of regret.
Bottom line: read the agenda before you sign the contract. — Jenny
